ACDIS at the University of Illinois:
Advancing Knowledge, Educating Students, Serving the Public

The Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS) was established at the University of Illinois in 1978. Since that time, ACDIS has evolved into one of the nation’s leading university-based centers for international peace and security studies. During its history, ACDIS has addressed through its teaching, research, and public engagement programs significant changes in the world that have brought new challenges for national and international security, such as the end of the Cold War, nuclear proliferation and conflict in South Asia, and most recently, September 11, the "global war on terrorism," and the Iraq conflict. Through all these changes, ACDIS has remained as vital and relevant as it was when it was founded more than thirty years ago.

About the ACDIS Directors Fund

The vision, creativity, and dedication of the founders and directors of ACDIS during its formative years and beyond have laid the basis for the program’s continuing success. We are recognizing the outstanding leadership of Professors Edward A. Kolodziej, Stephen P. Cohen, Jeremiah D. Sullivan, Clifford E. Singer, and the late Arthur Chilton through the ACDIS Directors Fund in Honor of the Founders and Directors of ACDIS.

The ACDIS Directors Fund will initially be used to help supplement undergraduate education with a focus on international peace and security studies. Income from the endowment will be used to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to study abroad in developing countries or to offer scholarships to help them complete research projects. Our ultimate goal is to increase the fund to the level of an endowed graduate fellowship in international security studies.

Making a Gift to ACDIS

We invite all who have been associated with ACDIS over the years or who have a vested interest in the pursuit of international peace and security studies to contribute to the ACDIS Directors Fund, which honors the contributions of the program’s founders and former directors, and at the same time supports deserving Illinois students engaged in the study of international peace and security.
