Biography
Professor Diehl is the author or editor of seventeen books and over one hundred articles on international relations matters. His books include The Scourge of War (University of Michigan Press, 2004), A Road Map to War: Territorial Dimensions of International Conflict (Vanderbilt University Press, 1999), The Dynamics of Enduring Rivalries (University of Illinois Press, 1998), International Peacekeeping (Johns Hopkins University Press, 1994), and Territorial Changes and International Conflict (Routledge, 1992).
Professor Diehl is the Director of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Teaching Academy. He is also Director of the Correlates of War Project, the largest data collection project on international conflict in the world. He was designated the Alan M. Hallene University Scholar (1993) and was named a University of Illinois Distinguished Teacher/Scholar (1999). In 1998 he received the Karl Deutsch Award in International Relations and Peace Research from the International Studies Association. For excellence in teaching, he is the three time recipient of the Pi Sigma Alpha/Clarence A. Berdahl Award as well as the Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the LAS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
