Biography
D. Phil., Oxford University. He is an expert on military uses of space, technical aspects of nuclear weapons testing, and arms control verification. He is the author or co-author of more than 70 papers in books and journals. He served on numerous NASA and DOE panels and committees and currently Chairman of the High Energy Astrophysics Division, American Astronomical Society and was a Science Fellow at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Arms Control, 1987-88. He helped found the Illinois Alliance to Prevent Nuclear War. He serves as a consultant to the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the Office of Technology Assessment on international security and arms control issues. He initiated and helped develop the course Physics/Global Studies 280: “Nuclear Weapons and Arms Control.”
