Biography

Myongsob Kim is an Associate Professor of Politics and Diplomacy at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Completed in 1996, his Ph.D. thesis was titled, Intégrer pour Régner: la stratégie globale de l’administration Truman et l’origine de la régionalisation tripolaire (dir. : Jean KLEIN). He has published numerous academic articles in international journals such as International Political Science Review (IPSA), Issues & Studies, Korea Journal, Korean Journal of Defense Analysis, and Korea Observer. His Korean publications include articles in Korean Political Science Review (recently, “The Geopolitics of Korean Independence and Christianity”), Korean Journal of International Relations (recently, “The Birth of Containment Strategy during the Cold War Era”), and many others. He has also translated several books into Korean, among them Introduction to Geopolitics, all of Z. Brzezinski’s recent trilogy (The Grand Chessboard, Choice, and Second Chance) and The Oxford History of the Twentieth Century. In addition to his early contributions to the study of the Korean War and North Korea in 1989, he has published in 2001 a highly-acclaimed book on the history of standard-making in the Atlantic civilization. Presently, he is working on several topics such as The Geopolitical Meaning of Christian Samurai in Japan and the Imjin War of 1592, The Geopolitical Repercussions of European Declassé System in Northeast Asia, and The Cold War since 1917 and the Korean War.
