ACDIS to Offer Lifelong Learning Course on International Security
Published: May 23, 2009
The Program in Arms Control, Disarmament, and International Security (ACDIS) is cooperating with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Illinois to offer a course during fall 2009 on contemporary issues in international security.
The course will present a range of topics that will help participants understand and interpret today's international security issues. Each week a different faculty member affiliated with ACDIS will present on a particular issue and facilitate discussion. The first presentation will offer a framework for understanding the overarching global security environment and especially the role of the United States. Subsequent presentations will address the topics of terrorism, energy security, nuclear proliferation and the nuclear posture of the United States, peacekeeping operations, Russia's foreign policy, and the current role and direction of NATO.
Colin Flint, ACDIS Director and Associate Professor of Geography and Political Science, will coordinate the course. Other instructors—all at University of Illinois unless otherwise noted—include Professors Ryan Hendrickson (Political Science, Eastern Illinois University); Paul Diehl (Political Science); Carol Leff (Political Science); Cliff Singer (Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering); and Jeremiah Sullivan (Physics).
