Summary

The papers in this issue represent contributions from speakers at an October 2002 conference on “Rethinking Terrorism” held at the University of Illinois. The scope of the conference and selection of papers included in this issue were internationally focused and varied in their approaches.

Collectively, the articles discuss topics such as the motivations of non-state perpetrators of terrorism, the economic status of those individuals and groups, and possible approaches to reducing the occurrence of terrorist acts.
